Stallworth Awards to be presentedWednesday Sep 16 2009 2:19 PMMr. and Mrs. Raul and Dorothy Espino of Buckley will be honored with Daisy Stallworth Achievement Awards for their community organizing efforts and foster parenting. Mr. and Mrs. Bob and Guadalupe Hamilton of Orting will also receive Achievement Awards as heroic grandparents and supporters of their local Family Support Center. Five additional awards in three other categories will be presented during the annual Daisy Stallworth Memorial Awards program tomorrow, Sept. 17 at 6:15 p.m. at Sprinker Recreation Center. The other awards and winners are: - Violence Prevention -- Peninsula School District, Evergreen Elementary, Terry Bouck, superintendent, Jacque Crisman, principal, and Julie Kreis, site coordinator. - Community Services -- Borders Book and Music (Tacoma), Jesse Duran, operations manager; South Tacoma Glass, Guy Hemley, owner; and Canterbrook Village Apartments, Lonnie Slaughter, manager. - Community Development -- Washington Women's Employment and Education, Robin Lester, CEO and Debi LaFleur, project manager. The awards event was created in memory of Pierce County Community and Human Services Executive Director Daisy M. Stallworth following her death due to cancer in 1997 at age 57.
