Work of 15 local artists added to Pierce County collectionThursday Sep 24 2009 2:41 PM
The chosen works were the result of a selection panel of current and former arts commissioners, artists, and curators who reviewed more than one hundred works submitted by dozens of artists for consideration. The focus of this year's call to artists was for works in mixed media that displayed unusual combinations of material or that combined traditionally distinct media in the same artwork. The pieces added to the collection represent diverse approaches to making art exemplified by works such as Tacoma artist Yuki Nakamura's City Islands (2006), composed of unglazed porcelain forms that emerge from light blue resin. The Pierce County Art Bank portable artwork collection is installed in public spaces throughout Pierce County buildings with the goal to improve the quality of the work environment, support local artists, and increase awareness of the diversity of art production in the county. The Art Bank, part of the Public Art Program administered by Pierce County Arts & Cultural Services, serves our mission to bring art into the life of all Pierce County residents.
