It's time to update the Solid Waste Management Plan
The last update to the Tacoma-Pierce County Solid Waste Management Plan was adopted in 2008. In order to keep the plan in a “current condition,” state law requires the plan be reviewed every five years.

Since the last update, the County has initiated work on about 80 percent of the policies proposed in the Plan. Over the same time period, the amount of waste from Pierce County, Tacoma and Joint Base Lewis McChord requiring disposal has declined 18 percent.

After considering the potential diversion impact of six programs under review, the Sustainable Resources Administrator put the Plan update on hold (effective May 31, 2013).
