Through a federal HUD grant, Housing Programs makes funding available for home ownership of affordable housing. Down Payment Assistance can also be obtained. If you have not owned a home in the last three years, and are at or below HUD's income guidelines , you may qualify for a low interest mortgage loan with monthly payments based on your ability to pay. Your application will be reviewed considering credit ratings and your debt to income ratio. If you qualify, you will be placed on a waiting list. You will be notified when a home becomes available. Applications for this programs can be mailed to you by contacting the office personnel listed below. Attending an educational First Time Homebuyer Class is required prior to closing. Applicants wishing to purchase within the city limits of Tacoma or Lakewood should contact that city for program information.
This program is intended to facilitate acquisition of affordable housing for low income families. Houses for this program come from a variety of sources. The program won a Certificate of Environmental Achievement from the National Awards Council for Environmental Sustainability. Some houses have been donated to the program, others have been acquired during foreclosure proceedings. All homes are rehabilitated to meet local codes and health and safety standards.
