Emergency Operations Center

The Pierce County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is operated and maintained by the Pierce County Department of Emergency Management (DEM). The primary EOC is located in the County-City Building (Room B-36) at 930 Tacoma Avenue South. Alternative EOCs have been identified throughout the County.

The EOC is activated by the Director, Program Manager, and/or the Duty Officer of the DEM when the level of emergency incident coordination requires it, upon the request of the Director of a county agency, or upon the request of any city or town in the county. The DEM and the EOC may be reached 24 hours a day through the department's duty officer at (253) 798-7470.

The EOC is staffed by the DEM assigned personnel and may be supplemented by volunteers from within county agencies and/or personnel from other agencies or groups such as the American Red Cross, RACES, etc.

The EOC operates under the guidance of the Pierce County Emergency Operations Center Plan that conforms to the National Incident Command System (ICS) model.
