A. Although designed primarily for receiving wounded soldiers from a conflict overseas, the National Disaster Medical System (NDMS) could be activated as a result of a disaster. The NDMS is coordinated and managed by the Public Health Service. Pierce County could either be receiving patients from another area, or sending patients injured here to other locations around the country.
B. It is the policy of Pierce County that if local hospital capability is overwhelmed, the request for activation of NDMS should be made by the DEM through the EOC, with input from the DMCC, to the state Emergency Management Division.
C. McChord Air Force Base is the staging area for NDMS locally. Madigan Army Medical Center is the local coordination center for medical assets such as supplies, personnel, facilities and special equipment if NDMS is activated.
D. If the NDMS is activated, primary coordination with McChord and Madigan for local needs and disposition of patients, personnel and supplies will be done by the DMCC.
Coordinate with the Pierce County Emergency Medical Services and NDMS to provide coordination and data collection so the information is available to make the determination that the NDMS should be requested.
B. Disaster Medical Control Center
After the NDMS is activated, provide coordination with and among local medical resources and medical components of the NDMS.
