The Tacoma-Pierce County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) responds to requests from local governments and coordinates with state and federal agencies, and private citizens. The EOC is the primary warning point for all natural and technological hazards that threated Pierce County including:
- Floods
- Earthquakes
- Volcanic Unrest
- Dam Failure
- Severe Weather Systems
- Civil Disturbances
- Terrorist Activities
The building was designed as a regional EOC. The primary goals of this building is its survivability, most particularly, in the event of an earthquake. The EOC is seismically designed to one and a half times the recommended building codes for this area, which enables the building to withstand a magnitude 6.7 earthquake.
In a major disaster this facility performs as a second seat of government, providing a safe secure environment, with hardened survivable communication systems, to the elected official and emergency response personnel who will be making critical life-safety decisions.
