Explanatory Statement
Yelm Community Schools No. 2 provides educational services to children for the community in grades K-12. Passage of this proposition would allow for the replacement of the existing Maintenance and Operations Levy which is expiring. The proposed two-year levy would be paid into the District’s General Fund during school years 1998-99, 1999-00, 2000-01, 2001-02. The taxes collected under this proposition would mean $2.81 per $1,000.00 assessed value in 1999 and $2.65 per $1,000.00 assessed value in 2000.
The funds collected by this levy will be applied to the general operating funds of the District for purposes of maintenance and operation of the District’s educational services, supplementing state funds for such purposes. Class size, supplies and materials, transportation services, extracurricular programs and staff inservice training are examples of cost supported by levy dollars.

Yelm community Schools deserve your support with a yes vote on April 28th. Our district has earned a well-deserved reputation for spending taxpayers’ money prudently. Yelm’s outstanding school board is committed to providing the best possible education at the best price possible. Citizens, parents and the business community are involved in making decisions about schooling, and our programs emphasize the basics-reading, writing and arithmetic-while laying a solid foundation for post-graduation training and employment. Yelm has some of the safest schools in the Pierce County area, and our test scores are among the top third of the districts in the county.
However, we need community levy support to continue the excellent programs that are now offered. The levy amount is not a new tax-it is a continuation of the tax amount that voters approved in 1996. And since our community is growing and property values are increasing, the levy rate per $1,000 of assessed valuation will be the same or less than for the current year.
Remember, quality schools equal a quality community. Vote yes April on the Yelm Community Schools replacement levy.
