HOT TOPICS:

  • Pierce County and its Citizens' Advisory Board announces the following 2009 proposed use of HUD dollars. Click here for the Budget. The 2009 Block Grant award links are: Public Services activities and Emergency Shelter Grants, as well as Public Facilities activities.
  • You are invited to help the Pierce County Consortium create the Department of Community Services 2010-2015 Consolidated Plan, for the community development block grant (CDBG), emergency shelter grant (ESG), and HOME programs. Please take 20 minutes to fill out both of the surveys linked below. The first survey asks questions related to the 2010-2015 Consolidated Plan. The second survey will help the County in its effort to improve access to housing for everyone in Pierce County.

OUR PROGRAMS:

Our primary responsibility is to allocate certain federal and county funds to accomplish the division's mission. In other words, we provide money (but only under certain conditions). In performing our mission, we implement 3 major programs and issue & monitor contracts for other community activities. You are welcome to access information relating to each of these programs by clicking on the underlined program name. The information contains information relating to the programs, current approved activities, reports on past activities, the next application process, and an annual calendar of events.

PERFORMANCE MONITORING:

As a guardian of your public money we want to ensure it's properly spent to accomplish our mission. We utilize the county-wide Outcomes Based Performance and Evaluation Process (OBE) to monitor activity performance. MEETING SCHEDULES:

To help us in selecting projects to fund, we use three different citizen committees. All meetings are open to the public and are held in the Community Services Building at 3602 Pacific Avenue, Tacoma, 98418.

  • CDBG Program - The Citizens Advisory Board (CAB) typically meets the first Wednesday of each month, at 6:00 PM plus additional evenings in January and February to hear applicant testimony. Click here for the 2009-10 CAB Schedule.
  • Violence Prevention Program - The Allocation Advisory Committee meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month from January through June at, 6 PM. Additional applicant testimony meetings are scheduled as needed in April and May, on Tuesdays same time and place. Click here for the 2009 Committee Schedule.
  • Tourism Promotion Program - The Lodging Tax Advisory Committee generally meets the 2nd Wednesday in April and May, at 2 PM. The final meeting to decide funding recommendations is on the third Wed of May, at 2 PM. Click here for the 2009 Committee Schedule.
