ELT Logo The Eat Local for Thanksgiving campaign was created to shine a public spotlight on the connections that buying locally has to the environment, use of fossil fuels and energy, supporting our local community, and helping keep our local farmers farming.

Your choices make a difference. Take the pledge. Exercise the 'Power of the Fork'!

While you might think that one butternut squash isn't going to make a huge difference, think again. The power of one action multiplied many times over makes more than a difference. The humble butternut squash becomes an agent for change and you become a local food hero.

The weather-hardy Proctor Farmers Market is open on Saturdays, until November 21st and the Key Peninsula Farmers Market is open from 12 to 2 on November 21st, indoors at the Key Peninsula Civic Center in Vaughn. Terry's Berries Farm Store is open on Tuesday and Wednesdays, offering organically certified, locally grown goods.

Grocery stores also offer local selections. Both Puget Sound Fresh and Charlie's Produce websites provide lists that can guide your choices. Be sure to look for 'Grown in Washington' labels and ask your produce manager to point out local produce.

Pierce County farm estate wines are also available at Trillium Creek Winery and The Winery at the Farm at Stringtown Farm, with wine tastings most weekends.

Chairman Bush Council Chair, Roger Bush, presents the 'Eat Local for Thanksgiving' Proclamation to Carrie Sikorski, Pierce County Farmbudsman, and Mary Embleton, Executive Director of the Cascade Harvest Coalition and Puget Sound Fresh, on November 17th. Read the Proclamation.
