Pierce County Councilman Shawn Bunney represents eastern and southern Pierce County including the areas of Buckley, Wilkeson, Carbonado, Bonney Lake, Sumner, Edgewood, Milton, South Prairie, Orting, and Graham.
This is Shawn's second term as a Councilmember. Prior to his 2002 election and 2006
re-election, Councilmember Bunney was a Pierce County Council staff attorney and research analyst, with a focus on public works.
Shawn graduated from Evergreen State College with emphasis on Public Administration. He graduated from the UPS School of Law in 1993 and has been a member of the Washington State Bar Association since 1994.
Councilmember Bunney is known for leadership in the county. He served as Chairman of the Pierce County Council in 2005 and 2006, serves on the Rules and Operations Committee, and co-chairs the Lake Tapps Task Force.
Shawn has put economic and job development at the forefront of the county?s priorities. He will continue serving on the Economic and Infrastructure Development Committee, which he chaired previously.
Shawn sits on the Performance Audit Committee in order to keep the Council focused on implementing performance audit recommendations.
Councilmember Bunney is recognized regionally as a leader in transportation issues. He also serves on the Puget Sound Regional Council Executive Board.
Shawn is a member of the Washington State Association of Counties Urban County Caucus, and the Legislative Steering Committee.
Shawn served as a White House Intern with President Reagan, and as Travel and Special Events Coordinator for U.S. Treasury Secretary Brady in the first Bush Administration.
One of Shawn's proudest accomplishments is having achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America.
Shawn and his wife Patti reside in the Lake Tapps community.
