Councilmember Roger Bush

Roger Bush was elected to the Pierce County Council in 2004. Councilmember Bush represents the communities of Ashford, Eatonville, Elbe, Elk Plain, Frederickson, Graham-west, Harts Lake, Lacamas, Roy-east, Spanaway-east, and South Hill.

Councilmember Bush serves as Chair of the Select Committee on Emergency Preparedness; Chair of the Economic & Infrastructure Development Committee; and is a member of the Community Development Committee; and the Public Safety and Human Services Committee.

Roger serves on several other external boards and commissions. He is the Chair of the Lodging Tax Advisory Board, and a member of the Law Enforcement Officers' and Fire Fighters' Disability Board; the Pierce County Law and Justice Commission; the Pierce County Regional Council; the Pierce County Reserve Officers Board of Trustees; and the Zoo and Trek Authority.

A Puget Sound native, Roger has made his home in the Frederickson-Graham community for the past twenty-two years. He has been married to his wife, Cheryl, for more than 37 years. He and his wife have one married daughter and two grandchildren.

Roger earned his B.A. (with teaching credentials) in 1971 at Seattle Pacific University. He then earned his Masters degree at George Fox University in 1977.

Prior to being elected to the Pierce County Council in November 2004, he was elected to four consecutive terms in the Washington State House of Representatives, representing many of the same neighborhoods. While there, Roger served on the Capital Budget Committee; the Technology, Telecommunications and Energy Committee; the Government Reform and Land Use Committee; the Joint Legislative Committee on Economic Development and International Affairs; plus the Rules Committee. He served as Vice-chair of the Children and Family Services Committee, and as Vice-chair of the Financial Institutions and Insurance Committee. He was also Co-chair of the Joint Select Committee on Veterans' and Military Affairs.

In addition, Roger served as a member of the Attorney General's Task Force on Consumer Privacy, the Higher Education Facilities Subcommittee, the Time for Trial Task Force, and as Co-chair of the Commercial E-mail Task Force.

Roger is a former public school teacher in the Bethel School District.

Councilmember Bush was nominated to Outstanding Young Men of America and to Who's Who in America in Industry and Finance.

He is a member of the Church of Nazarene, the Eatonville Chamber of Commerce, the Frederickson Clover Creek Community Council, the Graham Business Association, the National Rifle Association, the South Hill Community Council, South Hill Historical Society, and the Washington Association of County Officials.
