FIXED NUCLEAR FACILITIES (FNF)

To provide guidance for responding to nuclear power plant accidents which may affect Pierce County.

A. Pierce County is not in any planning zone as currently described by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and thus will not normally be directly affected by a fixed nuclear facility accident/incident due to the location of the fixed nuclear facility (FNF) plants within the state or neighboring states. However, past experience has shown there is a great deal of public concern if there is an incident anywhere in the world.
B. If a FNF incident occurs, the state Emergency Management Division or the state Health Officer will provide guidance and information as it pertains to Pierce County.
C. The Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department is the lead agency for coordinating the dissemination of emergency public information for this contingency. The Pierce County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) may be activated to assist.

A. Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department

Coordinate the dissemination of public information concerning releases from nuclear power plants.

B. Pierce County Department of Emergency Management

Support and coordinate the dissemination of emergency public information.
