AWR-160 WMD Awareness Training is Available Monthly

Potential terrorist activities may be part of the day-to-day activities First Responders face. Homeland Security Region 5 and Pierce County Dept of Emergency Management is offering a practical 6-hr Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) Awareness level class that covers the following modules:

Prevention and Deterrence
Define terrorism and WMD
List the indicators of potential terrorist acts
List potential terrorist targets
Chemical Agents
Describe selected chemical agents and TIC terms, definitions, characteristics
Recognize the physiological signs and symptoms of exposure
Biological Agents
Describe biological agents
Signs and symptoms of exposure
Physical characteristics of biological agents
Radiological Materials
Describe the characteristics of radiation and radiological materials
Identify the physiological signs and symptoms of exposure
Identify radiation exposure devices and radiological dispersal devices
Distinguish between a nuclear weapon detonation and a conventional explosion
Explosive Devices
Identify the characteristics of explosives
Effects of a detonated explosive device

Through a grant from the Office of Domestic Preparedness, Pierce County Emergency Management is able to offer training to Pierce County First Responders about how to recognize and respond to terrorism at an awareness level. The grant allows reimbursement for the overtime of the student in the class or the backfill overtime as needed. Please review the documents below for more specific information about what is covered. Then complete the registration form, have it approved by your supervisor and forwarded to Pierce County Emergency Management.
