Construction of Pierce County's Central Maintenance Facility (CMF) is halfway done. The much anticipated facility is scheduled to be complete in spring 2008 and consists of six buildings, oak mitigation & oak protection areas and a brand new road 196th Street E . Despite unpredictable weather conditions, construction crew managed to stay on schedule with major tasks such as installing electrical plumbing, windows, site lighting and landscaping.
The new CMF site will include the following:
- Administration Building
The administration building will house road operations, administration, public meeting space, engineering, district managers and supervisors with a dispatch area for the combined work force from the Puyallup & Elk Plain road shops.
- Equipment Services Building
The equipment services building will provide additional office space and large enclosed truck bays for the repair and maintenance of all road equipment such as trucks, graders, loaders and much more.
- Medium Vehicle Storage Building
Open bays will provide covered parking for trucks, flat beds, and smaller equipment. It will also house a check-out area for tools, hard hats and other necessities.
- Large Vehicle Storage Building
The large vehicle storage building provides covered parking for larger equipment. One area of the building is enclosed to protect weather-sensitive equipment from freezing
- Sand/Salt Storage Building
The new sand/salt storage building will house salt-brine-making equipment (to prevent icy roads), and sand (which is used during snow storms).
- Oak Habitat Enhancement
Existing oak trees from the 196th Street construction site were transplanted to the oak habitat area on the new central maintenance facility site.
- New Road?196th Street
The new road enables direct access to the central maintenance facility from Canyon Road, as well as the new IKEA distribution center next door.
