Word on the Street: Construction has begun on Canyon Road East (from 144th Street East to 116th Street East)

What's Happening

We're improving 1.7 miles of Canyon Road East from 144th Street East to 116th Street East (CRP 5404/5433). Improvements designed to improve safety and relieve traffic congestion indlude:

Widening to six lanes with a median.
Installing new traffic signals at 136th Street East, 128th Street East, and 122nd Street East.
Installing a roadway illumination system.
Adding concrete curb, gutter and sidewalk.

The Latest:

The final lift of asphalt has been completed for the northbound lanes of Canyon Road. There are currently two lanes open to traffic, plus turn lanes at intersections.
The final lift of asphalt for southbound Canyon will be paved as weather permits.
There are currently two lanes open to traffic southbound.
Concrete sidewalk, curb and gutter are ongoing, as well as median work and decorative rock in the median.
Work continues with the illumination and signal systems throughout the project.
Signal system at 136th St E is operational.

What's the schedule?

May 2006: The contract was awarded and letters were sent to surrounding homeowners to notify the start of project.
June 2006:Pre-Construction Meeting was held.
July 2006 to January 2009: Construction continues.
December 2008: Anticipated Substantial Completion Date
January 2009: Anticipated Physical Completion Date.
February 2009: Anticipated Project Completion Date.
