Word on the Street: Improvements of 176th Street East (from 600 feet east of 78th Avenue East to Gem Heights Drive East)

What's Happening
We're improving 0.9 miles of 176th Street East from 600 feet east of 78th Avenue East to Gem Heights Drive East (CRP 5424). Improvements, designed to improve safety and relieve traffic congestion, include:

• Expanding to four lanes and paved shoulders with a median or U/left-turn lane at limited locations.
• Adding concrete curbs, gutters and sidewalks.
• Adding street lighting.
• Improving the traffic signal at Gem Heights Drive East.
• Adding an enclosed storm drain system as well as stormwater treatment and storage facilities.

The 176th Street East corridor improvements also include the following County Road Projects (CRPs):

• CRP 5471 - B Street East to 14th Avenue East
• CRP 5536 - 14th Avenue East to Waller Road East
• CRP 5537 - Waller Road East to 51st Avenue East
• CRP 5472 - 1100 feet east of Canyon Road East to 300 feet west of 78th Avenue East
• CRP 5723 - 300 feet west of to 600 feet east of 78th Avenue East

August 2008

• Engineering: We're now finalizing the design of the lighting, traffic signal systems, the enclosed storm drain system, and stormwater treatment and storage facilities.
• Land: Acquisitions are nearing completion. All offers have been made and we are actively negotiating with the remaining property owners.

• February 2003 to May 2009: Finalize permits, environmental documents, plans, and estimates.
• January 2006 to May 2009: Complete acquisition of needed property and easements.
• Construction during 2009 to 2011: To be constructed jointly with CRP 5472.
