Word on the Street: Improvements of 176th Street East from 1,100 feet east of Canyon Road East to 300 feet west of 78th Avenue East

What's Happening
We're improving 1.2 miles of 176th Street East from 1,100 feet east of Canyon Road East to 300 feet west of 78th Avenue East (CRP 5472). Improvements, designed to improve safety and relieve traffic congestion, include:

  • Expanding to four lanes and paved shoulders with a median or U/left-turn lane at limited locations.
  • Adding concrete curbs, gutters and sidewalks.
  • Adding street lighting.
  • Adding an enclosed storm drain system as well as stormwater treatment and storage facilities.
  • Adding new traffic signals at 70th Avenue East and 74th Avenue East

The 176th Street East corridor improvements also include the following County Road Projects (CRPs):

  • CRP 5471 - B Street East to 14th Avenue East
  • CRP 5536 - 14th Avenue East to Waller Road East
  • CRP 5537 - Waller Road East to 51st Avenue East
  • CRP 5723 - 300 feet west of to 600 feet east of 78th Avenue East
  • CRP 5424 - 600 feet east of 78th Avenue East to Gem Heights Drive East

August 2008

  • Engineering: Roadway alignment designs are complete. We're now designing lighting, traffic signal systems, the enclosed drain system, and stormwater treatment and storage facilities.
  • Land: Acquisitions continue and most offers have been made and we are actively negotiating with property owners.


  • February 2003 to May 2009: Finalize permits, environmental documents, plans and estimates.
  • January 2006 to May 2009: Property negotiations and easements.
  • Construction during 2009 to 2011: To be constructed jointly with CRP 5424.

How does the money get spent?

  • Engineering: $0.8 million
  • Right-of-Way Acquisition: $2.9 million
  • Construction: $8.3 million

Where does the money come from?

  • County Road Fund and 2nd Real Estate Excise Tax (REET): $10.8 million
  • Traffic Impact Fee: $1.0 million
  • Other: $0.2 million
