Word on the Street: Improvements of 176th Street East from 300 feet west of to 600 feet east of 78th Avenue East.

What's Happening
We're improving 0.17 miles of 176th Street East from 300 feet west of to 600 feet east of 78th Avenue East (CRP 5723). Improvements, designed to improve safety and relieve traffic congestion, include:

  • Widening existing pavement to add an eastbound right turn lane on 176th Street East.
  • Re-striping the pavement to accommodate four through lanes, an east to southbound right turn lane, paved shoulders, and raised median with designated U/left-turn lanes.
  • Adding concrete curbs, gutters and sidewalks.
  • Adding street lighting.
  • Modifications to stormwater facilities.
  • Improving the traffic signal at the intersection.

The 176th Street East corridor improvements also include the following County Road Projects (CRPs):

  • CRP 5471 - B Street East to 14th Avenue East
  • CRP 5536 - 14th Avenue East to Waller Road East
  • CRP 5537 - Waller Road East to 51st Avenue East
  • CRP 5472 - 1100 feet east of Canyon Road East to 300 feet west of 78th Avenue East
  • CRP 5424 - 600 feet east of 78th Avenue East to Gem Heights Drive East

August 2008

  • Engineering: We are in the preliminary engineering phase of the project. Roadway alignments are being finalized. We're also monitoring the existing wetlands to determine the capacity for the stormwater storage facilities.
  • Land: Working on finalizing Right-of-Way plans.


  • March 2007 to 2009: Design Engineering, development of plans and estimates, environmental permitting.
  • 2008 to 2009: Negotiations and property acquisitions.
  • Construction during 2010 to 2011

How does the money get spent?

  • Engineering: $0.35 million
  • Right-of-Way Acquisition: $0.09 million
  • Construction: $1.0 million

Where does the money come from?

  • County Road Fund and 2nd Real Estate Excise Tax (REET): $1.15 million
  • Traffic Impact Fee: $0.25 million
  • Other: $0.04 million
