What's Happening
We've completed concept-level engineering work for future improvements to Garfield Street South between Park Avenue South and SR-7 (Pacific Avenue South). The conceptual engineering built upon the common theme and vision developed in the community-based 'Garfield Streetscape Improvement Plan'. We also developed conceptual plans and a cost estimate for the future improvements, which may include the following:
- Installing curb bulbs.
- Adding mid-block pedestrian crossings.
- Parallel parking on both sides of the street.
- Improving street lighting.
- Adding street furnishings, such as benches and trash receptacles.
- Adding street trees and plantings.
- Undergrounding overhead utilities, if feasible.
- Modifications to the signal systems at Park Ave. S. and C St. S.
The project will now move into the funding application phase. This phase will seek out funding sources needed before beginning the additional engineering, right-of-way aquisition and construction.
