The following glass can NOT be recycled at any location and must be disposed of in your trash or at your nearest transfer station. (PDF file)

  • plate glass
  • window glass
  • mirrors
  • light bulbs*
  • ceramics or kitchen cookware (glass pans, measuring cups, etc.).

* fluorescent light bulbs are considered a household hazardous waste and must be taken to a Hazardous Waste Facility for disposal.

Glass is no longer accepted at curbside because it often breaks in the cart. Glass shards mix with paper and other recyclables, which then damages recycling processing equipment, lowers the value of the recycled paper, increases processing costs and poses a danger to workers at the sorting stations. Learn more in the 'Problems with Recycling Glass' report. (PDF file)

Glass can be recycled at numerous glass recycling sites throughout Pierce County.

Please sort the glass by color as marked on the collection site containers. This ensures maximum recyclability for the recycled glass.
