Pierce County's Ferry fleet consists of 2 vessels--MV Christine Anderson and MV Steilacoom II.
The Steilacoom II is nearly a mirror image of the Christine Anderson. At 216 feet, the new vessel is 3 feet longer and 2 feet wider and has a larger cabin and pilot house. Each ferry has a 54-vehicle capacity, but the Steilacoom II can carry 300 passengers (or 325 with additional crew) compared to the Christine Anderson's 250. The service speed is the same for both vessels, 11.4 knots.
The new $11.2 million ferry began service between Steilacoom and Anderson and Ketron Islands in early 2007. The MV Steilacoom II, christened on January 6, 2007, is used on an alternating schedule with the MV Christine Anderson, extending the life of each vessel.
