What does the 5-4-0 on the label mean?
The 5-4-0 on the front of the package is the product's N-P-K (nitrogen-phosphorous-potassium) ratio. Five percent of the fertilizer is nitrogen and four percent is phosphorous. SoundGRO contains trace amounts of potassium, so potassium deficient lawns may require a potassium supplement. The N-P-K ratio of SoundGRO does not change, but the fertilizer product can be blended with other amendments if a different ratio is desired.

Where can I use SoundGRO?
SoundGRO is safe to use on lawns, shrubs, trees, flowers, and vegetable gardens, anywhere you would use a commercial fertilizer.

How is SoundGRO different from chemical fertilizers?
SoundGRO is a slow release fertilizer with a very low salt-index compared to traditional chemical based fertilizers. The nitrogen in SoundGRO is broken down by microorganisms in the soil before being absorbed by the plant.
Slow-release prevents initial growth spurts and eliminates the necessity for excessive lawn mowing. It also ensures that the fertilizer works over a longer period of time, reducing the number of fertilizer applications required in a year. SoundGRO does not need to be watered in and there is virtually no risk of it burning your lawn, even when applied during hot, dry summer months.

Is SoundGRO safe for the environment?
SoundGRO poses no risk to the environment or groundwater. The organic form of nitrogen in SoundGRO is non water-soluable, meaning that there is no danger of it leaching to groundwater. As with all fertilizers, it is important to follow the directions on the label for safe application.

Does SoundGRO contain heavy metals?
All fertilizers, whether organic or chemical, contain small amounts of heavy metals. Several metals such as zinc are beneficial for human health and essential to healthy plant growth.
Metals like lead and arsenic may pose a risk to human health if concentration levels are too high. The EPA and WSDA have adopted strict content standards for these metals in biosolids fertilizer and SoundGro meets these standards.
