The Unified Sewer Plan (USP) completed in November 2001 updated and consolidated the Pierce County Comprehensive Sewage General Plan and associated documents to be consistent with growth management decisions made in the 1994 Pierce County Comprehensive Plan. The Pierce County Sewer Utility is now beginning an update of the USP document.
The focus of the update will continue to be the centralized treatment of wastewater at the Chambers Creek Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant with a possible expansion of the established boundary of the service basin.
The Recommended Alternative approved in November 2001 should remain largely unchanged; however new policies incorporating Class A biosolids fertilizer production and future reclaimed water production at the Chambers Creek Regional WWTP will be included. (Both Class A biosolid fertilizer and reclaimed water production were listed in Sections 5.2.2 and 5.2.3 of the original USP as Reclamation and Reuse goals).
Pierce County has requested cities, towns, and wastewater treatment facilities to assist in this effort by providing updated information relevant to their individual sewer collection systems. The update is projected for completion in July 2009.
