Applicants are needed to fill vacancies on two Pierce County committees administered by the Department of Community Services.
The Lodging Tax Committee The has an opening for a representative from a business that collects lodging tax in the county and an at-large community representative. The committee meets three to four times a year. Members representing the lodging industry, the tourism industry and the general public, encourage and promote activities to increase tourism, evaluate funding applications, and make recommendations to Pierce County on the allocation of lodging tax dollars.

The Allocation Advisory Committee for Prevention Programs has openings for new members who live in unincorporated areas of Pierce County. The committee meets monthly January through June. The committee advises the county on the use of tax dollars set aside for youth violence prevention programs. Members make a difference in the lives of children by increasing the understanding of the impact of violence prevention programs, evaluating funding applications and making recommendations on the allocation of the Criminal Justice Sales and Use Tax.

Firearms Advisory Commission seeks applicants
Help make recommendations to the County Council and Executive on laws regarding county firearm use.
Applications are being accepted to fill two positions as citizen representative on the Firearms Advisory Commission.
The commission handles petitions concerning the discharge of firearms in prohibited and restricted areas. It also reviews all proposed county legislation regarding firearms.
The term is four years and applicants must provide documentation of a safety firearm class or Washington hunter safety class.
The commission convenes as needed to review proposed legislation. The Pierce County Executive will make the appointments subject to County Council confirmation.

Applicants need for Land Use Advisory Commission Applicants are needed for vacancies on the Pierce County Land Use Advisory Commissions in the Frederickson, Gig Harbor, Graham, South Hill, Spanaway, Summit View and Summit Waller areas.
The land use advisory commissions meet monthly to review development applications and issues affecting their jurisdictional area. If you live in any of the areas above, please consider volunteering.

Applications are being accepted to fill two vacant positions on the Pierce County Landmarks and Historic Preservation CommissionAppointments are made by the County Executive with Council confirmation. The deadline for applying is Aug. 15.
The 11-member commission makes recommendations to the County Executive and Council on historic preservation-related matters. Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the month from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the County Annex, 2401 S. 35th St. The commission is comprised of seven council district representatives and four at-large members. Terms are three years.
Individuals who reside in Council Districts 1 and 7 and have expertise in history, historic architecture, archaeology and archival science are encouraged to apply. Chemical Dependency Advisory Board
The Pierce County Human Services Department is seeking interested people to fill volunteer positions on the Chemical Dependency Advisory Board. The board assists and advises Pierce County on matters relating to the development and operation of publicly funded substance abuse treatment and prevention services and acts as an advocacy body to promote the interests of recipients of these services.
Positions are open to individuals residing in Pierce County who have an interest in issues related to substance abuse treatment and prevention. Recovered substance abusers are encouraged to apply. The board also welcomes applicants from minority groups, and representatives from the Asian/Pacific Islander and Native American communities are particularly needed at this time.
State law prohibits chemical dependency treatment providers, their employees or board members from serving on the County Chemical Dependency Advisory Board.

This nine-member advisory board meets monthly to advise the Parks & Recreation Department on current issues and strategic planning efforts ranging from recreation programs, maintenance operations and capital projects.

Community Services Citizens' Advisory Board
The Pierce County Department of Community Services is seeking new members to serve on the Pierce County Citizens Advisory Board. The Board makes recommendations for allocating Community Development Block Grant and Emergency Shelter Grant dollars. Members will have the opportunity to reduce the impact of poverty and homelessness on families and individuals by funding programs which ease these conditions.
In monthly evening meetings, the members of the Citizens Advisory Board determine community needs, prioritize program activities, evaluate funding applications, and make recommendations to the County Council and County Executive on program funding. Staff support is provided by the Department of Community Services.

Noxious Weed Control Board
Pierce County residents are invited to apply for appointment as members of the Pierce County Noxious Weed Control Board. Board members, who have experience in agriculture, horticulture, or related fields, are appointed for four-year terms.
Vacancies on the five-member board vacancies are for Districts 1 and 2. District 1 comprises the northwest section of Pierce County and includes the communities of Gig Harbor, Fox Island, Anderson Island, Ketron Island, Herron Island, Key Peninsula, University Place, Ruston, Fircrest and Tacoma west of Union Ave and South Tacoma Way. District 2 encompasses the southwest section of Pierce County and includes Lakewood, Steilacoom, DuPont, Roy, McKenna, Fort Lewis and McChord Air Force Base.

Pierce County Arts Commission
The Pierce County Department of Community Services is seeking new members to serve on the Pierce County Arts Commission, an advisory body to Pierce County government. The Commission is seeking members interested in advocating on behalf of the arts, artists, and arts organizations throughout Pierce County.
At monthly meetings, Commissioners recommend selections for Percent for Art projects, review applications and make funding recommendations for arts and arts education programs, select recipients of arts recognition awards, and make recommendations on policies to determine allocation of the County?s arts resources.
