What is the Cooperative Abatement Program?

Pierce County Responds will pay half the towing cost for removing a junk vehicle from a residental property or private road, if eligible.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Cooperative Abatement is offered on a one-time only basis, to the Applicant, unless otherwise approved by the Pierce County Responds Code Enforcement Supervisor.
  • The property possessing a junk vehicle is zoned residential and has either a single or two-family dwelling.
  • There are less than twenty (20) junk vehicles on the property.
  • The applicant agrees to a property inspection for the purpose of identifying and documenting junk vehicles.
  • Upon completion of said inspection, the land owner/occupant agrees that vehicles identified in the Cooperative Abatement Application are junk vehicles, and violate applicable Pierce County Code.
  • The Applicant agrees to remove and dispose of junk vehicles within the time frame specified in the Cooperative Abatement Agreement and in a manner approved by Pierce County.
  • The Applicant agrees to allow Pierce County to represent the Applicant in the matter of legal notification of the vehicle's last registered and legal owners.
