Pierce County Responds provides a program for identification and removal of junk vehicles on private property. Pierce County Responds' Code Enforcement Officers can offer the following assistance:
- Inspect the vehicle to determine it it meets the criteria for a junk vehicle.
- If it is determined to be a junk vehicle, a Code Enforcement Officer can issue a Junk Vehicle Affidavit, which is required by tow operators to remove public nuisance vehicles.
- If the vehicle does not meet the criteria for a junk vehicle, the vehicle may be towed by any licensed tow operator. A current list of licensed tow operators is listed on Washington State Department of Licensing's Webpage.
Towing Costs:
- Many tow operators will haul vehicles free of charge when the value of scrap metal is high, however, this is subject to change.
- Any towing fee incurred would be paid by residents on the private road or private property where the vehicle is abandoned. Pierce County Responds may pay half of the towing fee through our Cooperative Abatement Program.
