What is PREP Compost?

PREP (Pierce County Recycled Earth Products) Compost is a product made from 100% recycled yard waste, most of which comes from the Curbside Yard Waste Collection Program throughout Pierce County. There are absolutely no chemicals, manures, or human wastes added to make PREP Compost.

PREP Compost is commercially produced locally at the Pierce County Yard Waste Compost Facility in Purdy, Washington. This facility is a state-of-the-art compost plant that has received acclaim world-wide throughout the industry for its design, efficiency, and product superiority.

Benefits of PREP Compost:

  • Made from 100% recycled yard waste. There are no chemicals, manures or human wastes added.
  • PREP is high in calcium, magnesium, potassium and phosphorous. These plant nutrients, as well as the physical properties (pH, particle size distribution, bulk density and water holding capacity), renders PREP compost superior to bark, peat, or peat moss used in potting soil mixes.
  • The nutrient content of PREP also reduces the amount of fertilizer required for optimum plant nutrition.

How to Apply:

The accepted standard for a healthy soil to be used in food gardens is a minimum of 5% humus in the first 12 inches of soil. One inch of PREP compost spread over the surface of the garden is roughly equal to the 5% hummus content desired.

  • One cubic foot covers 12 square feet at a depth of 1 inch, and weighs approximately 37 pounds.
