The Channel Migration Zone Citizen Advisory Committee (CMZ CAC) is an ad-hoc advisory committee established by the Pierce County Council to evaluate and provide recommendations to Pierce County regarding channel migration zones. The committee includes representation from a number of stakeholder groups, including affected property owners, members of local watershed councils, land use advisory committees and floodplain managers.

Channel migration zones have been adopted along reaches of the Puyallup, Carbon and White rivers and have been studied (although not yet adopted) along reaches of the upper Nisqually River and South Prairie Creek. Further CMZ studies of the Greenwater and Mashel rivers are also required by Title 18E.70 of Pierce County Code. The CAC has been asked to work collaboratively with Pierce County staff to develop recommendations on the mapping and management of CMZ areas by August 31, 2009.

Membership on the CMZ CAC was widely publicized as open to the general public. Applicants were selected on the basis of establishing a committee which represented a wide range of perspectives and interests across the County. The following members submitted applications to Pierce County Surface Water Management and were confirmed by the Pierce County Council:

Jeff Barney - CMZ Property Owner (Nisqually) / Recreational User
Shelly Butterfield - CMZ Property Owner (Puyallup - Former)
