Low impact development (LID) has received increased attention in recent years as a means for accommodating growth and development, while also protecting quality of life and natural resources in Pierce County and throughout the Puget Sound region. The Puyallup Low Impact Development Workshop for Elected Officials is meant to provide mayors, council members, city administrators and other local elected leaders with the opportunity to learn more about how LID techniques can benefit the communities in our watershed.
Local and regional experts will identify the benefits and limitations of LID, provide information on a number of specific LID tools and techniques, and discuss the development of local LID ordinances. Speakers at the half-day workshop include:
- Curtis Hinman, WSU Pierce County Extension (Bioretention, rain gardens, porous pavement, soil amendment and green roofs)
- Art Castle, Kitsap Home Builders Association (Development community perspective on LID and implementation of standards in Kitsap County)
- Wayne Carlson, AHBL, Inc. (Development of LID ordinances across Puget Sound)
This workshop is the third of three LID events sponsored by Pierce County Public Works and Utilities Surface Water Management.
