The Nisqually Basin Plan Characterization (Phase 1) covers the existing physical and regulatory conditions in the watershed.
This includes: Federal, state, and local plans, policies and regulations; stakeholder involvement is also included.
Current conditions of existing land use, human population numbers, topography, soils, rainfall, natural and constructed drainages, aquatic and riparian habitat, wetland and upland habitat, water quality and hazard areas.
The identification of existing and potential problems respective to water quality, quantity and habitat has also been added.
Tables, charts, maps, graphs, and photographs have been dispersed throughout the Characterization to give a more realistic sense of the conditions.
Phase II, or the completed Comprehensive Basin Plan will follow with recommended solutions, either as Capital Improvement Projects or programmatic programs to address the problems identified in the Characterization.
