Judicial Department Location

Each judicial department has a permanently assigned courtroom to the extent available. All are housed in the County-City Building, located at 930 Tacoma Avenue South, Tacoma, Washington. However, each judge sits for limited periods of time in other special function courts, described below. The Court Administrator's office will provide information as to the courtroom in which a judge is currently sitting. Each department has its own telephone number with direct dialing.

Judicial Department Hours

Court Business Hours - Departments are open for business between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Trials - Trials are conducted between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 Noon, and 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily and at such other times as may be ordered by the trial judge.

Civil Motions and Assignments - Motions and assignments are called on Friday mornings at 9:00 a.m. In the event a Friday is a non-judicial day, the motion and assignment calendar will be heard on the judicial day immediately preceding the Friday.

The juvenile court judges should be contacted regarding their motion schedules.

Divisions of the Superior Court

Juvenile Court - is located at Remann Hall, 5601 Sixth Avenue, Tacoma, Washington. Judges rotate serving as Juvenile Court Judge. This division hears matters arising under the Juvenile Court laws.

Criminal Divisions - The Superior Court has created three criminal division courts. Criminal Division 1 is located in Room 560. Criminal Division 2 is located in Room 550. The location for Criminal Division Presiding Judge rotates as assigned by the Court Administrator's office. The function of the criminal divisions is to preside at arraignments, omnibus hearings, pleas, sentences and revocation hearings related to criminal offenses. Motions arising from criminal matters will be heard as time permits. Lengthy motions will be referred to the Criminal Division Presiding Judge or Designee for assignment to a criminal motion docket.
