Mountains to Sound Eco-Adventure Camp

Get ready for an amazing week of eco-adventures in and around some of Pierce County's wild places and open spaces. Each day of camp features exploring life in different settings: Mt. Rainier one day, visit the Foothills Trail and kayaking on Puget Sound on other days.

The objective of the Eco-Adventures Camp is to foster within each camper, the appreciation, knowledge, values and skills necessary to inspire sound decisions that are in balance with the human and natural environments. Events throughout the week will consist of indoor and outdoor hands-on activities, hiking, cooperative games, nature projects, scientific experimentation, journaling, storytelling, art projects, and special tours - all with an environmental awareness focus.

This program is for campers who want to be active!

A few weeks before the start of the program campers will receive a camp outline/schedule, participant information form, permission slip/form and a list of what campers need to bring each day.

This camp is organized and supervised by Pierce County Environmental Educators from Public Works and Utilities and adult staff from Pierce County Parks and Recreation.

The Gross Out Olympics is an event all kids can participate in. Get ready for extreme Gross Out challenges - Bologna Toss, Human Cheese Puff, Lemon Slurp, and many more disgusting events. Every Olympian earns a gold medal in these games.

Wear bathing suits or clothes that can get dirty. There will be a sprinkler on hand for the Olympians to run through and clean off between events.

This multi-media art program is oriented and designed to enhance a child's enjoyment of art and creative expression. Youths are provided with an opportunity to explore their creativity through a variety of materials.

Drawing and painting will be explored with all supplies included. The media includes pen and ink, charcoal, acrylic, and soft and oil pastels. Campers should bring a snack and beverage each day to class.

DANCE CAMPS

A Chance to Dance Camp - Beginner

This week long camp will include an introduction to ballet, jazz, modern/creative dance, and hip-hop. This is a great way for beginners to sample some different styles and develop their technique! Students will have fun learning routines and even experimenting with their own choreography.

Students must wear dance or comfortable clothing, such as leotard, tank top, dance pants, sweat pants, etc. Bare feet, socks or dance shoes are acceptable. And, be sure to bring a water bottle.

This week long camp will provide instruction in basic music theory and an introduction to playing the guitar. Learn rhythms, the music alphabet. Creativity will be encouraged by writing your own songs. We will cover basic chords for songs we can sing together as well as note reading and other guitar techniques.

Please provide your own guitar (no electric), pencils, snacks and water. The final class will include an open session where parents are invited to hear the campers play in an informal setting.

Theater Workshop

This fast paced, physically active program will introduce participants to various aspects of the 'art of acting.' Included in the program are group theater games, improvisation, and mime techniques.

This week long rock climbing camp includes bouldering, tope-rope climbing, fundamental technique instruction and games.

Youth Rockers Camp

Spend the first three days at Edgworks Climbing indoor rock gym learning the basics of climbing, belaying and mix in plenty of games and activities. Then venture outside for two days of climbing at local climbing areas with transportation. No experience necessary! Participants should bring snacks, lunch, and beverages.

Lots of Fun Day Camp - FULL

For children and young adults with disabilities. This is a 4 week summer camp, weekdays. The camp activities will include swimming, field trips, cooperative games, special visitors, creative arts, sports activities, singing, and social activities.

The program is staffed with school teachers and college students under the supervision of a Special Education Teacher. The activities change daily and are designed to promote sharing, cooperation, friendship, sportsmanship and fun.

A full time assistant (age 16 or older) must be provided for campers NOT toilet trained, ambulatory, or who pose a safety threat to self or others.

Transportation is the responsibility of the parents/care givers. for assistance through Pierce Transit, call 253-983-3315.

Space is limited to the first 80 campers. Registration begins the first week of May on a first come first serve basis.

  • All soccer clinic participants will receive a t-shirt, soccer ball, camp certificate and a full week of fun!

This camp is staffed by members of the three-time NAIA National Champion PLU Women's Soccer Team, high school coaches, and players from PLU Men's Soccer teams, in cooperation with Pierce County Parks. Players will be divided into age groups/skills and taught soccer skills/tactics through game related drills and actual game experiences.

Challenger British Soccer 2009 Camps

Each camp includes individual footwork exercises, parks and small group practices, small sided games, coached scrimmages, and a daily tournament. With each camp, campers will receive a Challenger soccer ball and t-shirt.

The Rockit Robot - Hyper Peppy Robotics

  • For ages 7-12

Build and take home your own Rockit Robot. Use the clap of your hands or the
sound of your voice to get it moving. You will see first-hand the many gears,
circuit board, and microphone, as well as it's easy-to-assemble mechanical drive
system. You will also get to build other robots as part of a small group.

In this week long camp you'll build and take home the Jungle Robot. You'll learn
how different types of gears mesh and are driven by a motor. You'll also get to
connect the motor, battery and microphone to a circuit board, to program your
sound activated robot. All levels are welcome.

Explore All About Parks

Come discover Pierce County Parks with our newest Recreation employee Jen. Each week we will meet in a different Pierce County Park to explore and play games.

Each participant should come in comfortable shoes and clothes to hike through the woods. All participants are encouraged to bring a water bottle and sun screen. Feel free to stay in the park after class and have a picnic or explore some more.
