What kind of glass can be recycled at collection sites throughout Pierce County?

• clear glass
• brown glass
• green glass

Most collection sites have glass bins for each color of glass and request that glass be sorted into the appropriate containers.

The following glass can NOT be recycled at any location and must be disposed of in your trash or at your nearest transfer station. (PDF file)

• plate glass
• window glass
• mirrors
• light bulbs*
• ceramics or kitchen cookware (glass pans, measuring cups, etc.).

* fluorescent light bulbs are considered a household hazardous waste and must be taken to a Hazardous Waste Facility for disposal.

Glass is no longer accepted at curbside because it often breaks in the cart. Glass shards mix with paper and other recyclables, which then damages recycling processing equipment, lowers the value of the recycled paper, increases processing costs and poses a danger to workers at the sorting stations.
