Water Quality Report Card

Pierce County publishes an annual Surface Water Health Report Card. The report card is based on sampling from specific creeks and lake water data collected by the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department. The report card assigns a letter grade to streams, lakes and watersheds.

Scoring Methods and Results

The stream grades are based on the average of a water quality index and Benthic Index of Biological Integrity (BIBI). These scores, plus the lake water data, are used to calculate the yearly score for each water body. Trends in water quality are monitored over time.
