11/1/2019 Construction is beginning on the First Responders Memorial Plaza outside the 2nd floor of the County-City Building. As a result, when you come into the building next week from the Yakima Street entrance you will see that the large tree has been removed. The tree has become increasingly difficult and expensive to maintain.
The memorial is designed to provide a respectful and publicly accessible place to honor first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice as they served Pierce County. The project will include the installation of three granite monuments, which represent law enforcement, military, and fire & emergency medical services. Other features of the plaza include a flagpole, new trees and landscaping.
Construction begins: November 2019 Estimated Plaza Completion: Spring 2020
