The Pierce County Council will hold its regular Tuesday meeting in Ashford on Oct. 14 as part of an effort to reach out to county residents who may not otherwise be able to attend the weekly meetings in Tacoma. The Ashford meeting begins at 6 p.m. at the Mount Rainier Lion’s Club, located at 27726 State Route 706 E.
“I hope to see many of our friends and neighbors come out for Tuesday’s meeting. It will be a chance to experience local government firsthand,” said Councilmember Jim McCune, who represents the 3rd Council District. “The focus of the meeting will be on learning about life in the shadow of Mount Rainier.”
Speakers and topics will include:
- Don Johnstone, author and historian, with a commentary and slideshow on the history of Ashford and the Mount Rainier area.
- Krestin Bahr, Superintendent of Eatonville Schools, with an update on the financial challenges and welfare of the district.
- Garry Olson, Ashford Fire Chief, who will discuss operating needs and expectations of a fire station in rural Pierce County.
- Rick Adams, business owner and long-time resident, who will share the economic history of the area and how regulatory and land-use policies have changed lives and livelihoods.
