The Pierce County Council filled two key vacancies in the community on Tuesday, July 2.
First, the Council voted 7-0 to appoint Kevin McCann as a judge on the Pierce County District Court bench. McCann, who has served the county as a deputy prosecutor for 17 years, succeeds Jack Nevin, who was elected to the Superior Court bench last fall. McCann was chosen from a field of six finalists.
Second, the Council voted 7-0 to appoint Dick Muri to fill a vacant position in the Washington State House of Representatives, serving the 28th Legislative District. Muri is a retired Air Force officer and former elected member of the County Council and Steilacoom School Board. He succeeds former state Rep. Steve O'Ban, whom the County Council appointed to the state Senate last month. Muri was chosen from a field of three candidates supplied by the local Republican Party, as required by law since he replaces a Republican.
