Father's Day

June 2015

This month, as we celebrate Father’s Day, I am thinking of my own father who passed some time ago. He was a strong and steady influence in my life and I am thankful for his commitment to our family.

My dad helped instill a sense of family in me that I carried with me as I began my own family. He was in foster care from an early age and that fact made him more determined to be a good father. This was one of the reasons that my husband I chose to become foster and adoptive parents. So thank you to all the fathers who remain faithful to their calling.
The U.S. Open Championship starts June 15th and runs through the 21st. Pierce County and surrounding cities are preparing for the world-class golf event. As host of the 2015 U.S. Open, Chambers Bay will test some of the greatest golfers in the world. And as one of the top public courses in Washington it’s an experience you can enjoy again and again! For more information, please visit  or

In this issue, you will also find information on Pierce County’s farmers markets (or visit for more information). Additionally, you'll find information on the dedication of Ashford Community Park's second phase completion and where you can enjoy Flag Day events. There are several other suggestions for free family outings and let’s not forget to honor dad on Sunday, June 21st!

Please remember, if there is anything in Pierce County government that I can assist you with or if you would like to share your concerns and ideas, my staff and I look forward to hearing from you.

Warm Regards,
