The summer months mean no school for many students, but for kids enrolled in Extended Learning Programs from 21st Century Community Learning Centers, summer becomes an opportunity to go to “camp” at school! We’ve partnered with some of these programs to engage students through fun activities that build environmental awareness around waste reduction and surface water pollution.
This summer, campers from Spanaway Elementary will learn about surface water pollution in their community. They’ll spend time at Spanaway Park exploring and investigating the lake and raingardens and learn about how to avoid polluting our surface water.
Campers at Liberty Ridge Elementary and Daffodil Valley Elementary will learn about waste reduction strategies and will put their creativity and engineering skills to use by designing games out of cardboard or making something “new” from a variety of waste items.
