New Shoreline Regulations will become effective as early as October of 2018
If you have been following the efforts to update the Pierce County Shoreline Master Program (SMP), you know this has been a lengthy process. The plan is now in the final stages of approval.
What happens next:
- The SMP will be heard by the County Council on October 2, 2018 to address requested amendments by Department of Ecology (Ecology)
- The results of that hearing will be sent to Ecology
- Dependent on the actions of the County Council, Ecology could issue a “Final Action” approving the SMP
- The county plan and regulations become effective 14 days after “Final Action” by Ecology
The earliest the regulations could become effective is October 18th.
The county will keep you updated on the actions by Ecology and the implementation date once it is known.
The county is in the process of creating documents to explain the impacts of the new regulations. Please take a look at the shoreline website. It will be updated as more documents become available.
